The Best 800-1000+ Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) AGM Marine Battery
In order to start large engines of boats, yachts, trucks, etc, strong 800-1000 or even more Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) marine or automotive battery is required.
Such batteries must be reliable, vibration resistant, robust and must be able to provide plenty of power at the moment notice. Electric equipment like winches, lights, pumps, alarms and similar must operate even when the main engine is off, thus these batteries often must also be able to withstand the deep cycle operations, too.

AGM or Lithium 800-1000 CCA Batteries?
Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) batteries are heavy but sturdy and reliable batteries, tested in countless applications and situations.
On the other hand, lithium starting and deep cycle batteries are emerging types of batteries and are used more and more even in marine and automotive applications.
Although they can withstand 5-10x more charging/discharging cycles and are much lighter than similar AGM batteries, lithium batteries costs more (at least initially) and are not as nearly proven technology as AGM batteries.
Also, in order for lithium batteries to be safe to use, they must come with Battery Management System (BMS) and should include LiFePO4 chemistry cells - LiFePO4 chemistry is not an absolute requirement, but ...
Some manufacturers offer lithium starting batteries even in the 700+ CCA range, but we couldn't find 800+ CCA models that we could say that they are strong, reliable, durable, and tested in various situations by many users.
So at the moment, we can recommend only AGM 800-1000+ CCA batteries for everyday use.
AGM or Flooded Lead Acid Batteries?
With so many advantages of AGM batteries, we really don't see the reason why would anyone bother with wet cells for boats, yachts, trucks, industrial machines and similar applications. Call me lazy, biased ... ;)
800-1000+ CCA Batteries Comparison Chart
The following chart lists some of the most popular AGM batteries being able to provide 800 or more Cold Cranking Amps - CCA is the maximum current that a new, fully charged, 12V battery can deliver for 30 seconds, with the battery voltage not dropping below 7.2V, at 0°F (-18°C).
Note: there are many other models on the market as well. Also, most of these batteries come in 'marine' version and 'automotive' version, differing often only in the available terminals. Batteries are ordered alphabetically.

1000+ Cold Cranking Amps Batteries - Starting, Dual Purpose or Deep Cycle?
In order to provide 1000+ CCAs, AGM batteries must feature large plate surface. Due to their size, these plates are more robust than the plates in smaller batteries, leading to increased vibration resistance and more robust construction, but also increased tolerance to deep discharges.
Thus, 1000+ CCA starting batteries are not so common. But, dual purpose, 100+ Ah 1000+ CCA AGM batteries, although not cheap, are excellent choice for applications where large starting currents are required and when one may expect significant battery loads even when the main engines are off (various pumps, winches, lights, etc.)
Some of the most popular models in this class are NorthStar NSB-AGM31M, Odyssey 31M-PC2150 and somewhat larger Odyssey PC2250 dual purpose AGM batteries.
Both NorthStar NSB-AGM31M and Odyssey 31M-PC2150 batteries belong to the BCI Group 31, have nominal 20h capacity of 103 and 100 Ah respectively, both have CCA value of 1150 Amps, RC value of 220 and 205 minutes and they weigh 75 and 77.8 lbs (34.0 and 35.3 kg).
On the paper, NorthStar NSB-AGM31M (and its automotive version NorthStar NSB-AGM31) tolerates more charging/discharging cycles, but in real life Odyssey 31M-PC2150 can operate at lower temperatures and even can be 'brought back to life' after being fully discharged (almost to the point of cell reversal) using smart AGM battery chargers.
Don't get us wrong, NorthStar NSB-AGM31M is also tough battery and can withstand deep discharges and Odyssey 31M-PC2150 can be charged/discharge many times - these batteries are evenly matched and when deciding which one to buy, check their price and warranty and go for the cheaper one with better warranty conditions.
Odyssey PC2250 is somewhat larger and heavier battery, and it features 126 Ah capacity, 1225 CCA Amps and 240 minutes RC rating. Also, it weighs 86 pounds (39.0 kg), which is slightly more than NorthStar NSB-AGM31M and Odyssey 31M-PC2150.
If the NorthStar NSB-AGM31M and Odyssey 31M-PC2150 are slightly under-dimensioned for Your applications, consider Odyssey PC2250 battery.
Deep cycle batteries being able to provide 1000+ CCA currents are large and heavy batteries - commonly, these batteries feature 200+ Ah nominal capacity and weigh 110+ pounds.
Most popular such batteries are Odyssey PC1800-FT, VMAXTANKS MR197-200, VMAXTANKS XTR4D-200, VMAXTANKS XTR8D-350 etc. All of these batteries feature 1100+ Amps CCA, Reserve Capacity (RC) of at least 450 minutes and they weigh a lot - VMAXTANKS XTR8D-350 belongs to the battery group 8D, features 350Ah (!) capacity, can provide 1700 CCA Amps, can provide 25 Amps for 780 minutes (13 hours!) and it can be used in the single battery electric systems on the boats, trucks, RVs, electric vehicles, industrial applications etc.
But, it also weighs 185 pounds!
Generally, if you are looking for a strong cranking battery (1000+ CCA) that must be able to provide plenty of energy/power while main engines are off, consider reputable 200+Ah deep discharge batteries - they can be used (and even abused up to the point, but ...) in many applications, just be sure to know their limits and to stay safe!
900-1000 Cold Cranking Amps Batteries - Dual Purpose Heaven
Batteries that are able to provide 900-1000 CCA are robust batteries with plates strong enough to be also able to withstand larger number of charging and discharging cycles.
Most popular models in this class are Exide XMC-31, NorthStar NSB-AGM-27M, NorthStar NSB-AGM65, Odyssey 65-PC1750T, and Optima 8052-161 D31M AGM batteries, but note that there are many other models on the market as well.
Despite being described as 'dual purpose' batteries, some of these batteries tend to have better cranking features, while some of them tend to have better deep discharge features.
For example, Exide XMC-31 and NorthStar NSB-AGM-27M both weigh 68 pounds (31 kg), and have very similar CCA rating (925 vs 930 CCA) and RC value (200 vs 195 minutes), but note that Exide XMC-31 features better 20h capacity (100 Ah) than NorthStar NSB-AGM-27M battery (92 Ah).
Exide XMC-31 is obviously slightly all-round better performer, and it is even labeled as 'deep cycle battery', but it also costs more.
Other batteries in 900-1000 CCA range are also dual purpose batteries, but more optimized for starting applications than for true deep discharge applications.
NorthStar NSB-AGM65, Odyssey 65-PC1750T, and Optima 8052-161 D31M AGM batteries are lighter (55 lbs, 58 lbs and 61 lbs respectively) than Exide XMC-31 and NorthStar NSB-AGM-27M batteries, and have CCA in the 900-1000 Amps range (930, 950 and 900 Amps), very similar 20h capacity (69, 74 and 75 Ah) and rather similar RC values (135, 145 and 155 minutes).
Again, prior choosing any of these, be sure to check their price and warranty conditions.
800-900 Cold Cranking Amps Batteries - Dual Purpose vs Starting Batteries
This group is represented by four batteries, although many more models can be found on the market.
These batteries are: NorthStar NSB-AGM34, Odyssey 34M-PC1500, Optima 8006-006 34M, and Optima 8027-127 D27M.
They all feature CCA rating in the 800-900 Amps range, but Optima 8006-006 34M battery is designed as Starting/Cranking battery, while other batteries are true dual purpose batteries.
NorthStar NSB-AGM34, Odyssey 34M-PC1500, and Optima 8027-127 D27M batteries feature CCA ratings of 880, 850, and 800 Amps respectively, RC values of 134, 135 and 140 minutes, 20h capacities of 65, 68 and 66 Ah and they weigh 51, 49.5 and 54 pounds.
On the other hand, Optima 8006-006 34M features CCA rating of 800 Amps, but RC value of 'only' 100 minutes, 20h capacity of 'only' 50 Ah, but it weighs 'only' 38.4 pounds - it is ~11 pounds lighter than the next battery in this group (Odyssey 34M-PC1500, 49.5 lbs).
As one can see, there is a big difference in design of the starting, dual purpose and true deep cycle AGM batteries.
If you are looking for a good, well designed 800-900 CCA battery, be sure to know what kind of battery you actually need - a true starting battery or dual purpose battery. Weight and other features may differ greatly.
Long Story Short: 800-1000+ CCA batteries pack plenty of energy and can easily deliver very strong currents that can do some serious damage, can hurt someone or even worse ... So, whatever you do, stay safe.
When choosing which battery to buy, ratings like CCA, RC, capacity, BCI battery group, weight etc. are very important, but there are other little details that can be very important.
All batteries listed in this article are popular models and one of the best buy in their own groups. And they are often anything but cheap.
But, if used properly, these batteries will serve you well for a long time.
