YTX12-BS battery is a BCI Group of starting/cranking batteries intended for motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATV, scooters, boats, power generators, tractors, and other vehicles, vessels, and applications where small and compact, but relatively strong battery is required to provide bursts of energy, required for starting/cranking smaller gas and even diesel engines.

YTX12-BS Battery Dimensions and Performances

BCI Group YTX12-BS are motorcycle/Powersports batteries which should be able to fit in the battery compartment with the physical dimensions of (L x W x H) 5.875 x 3.5 x 5.125 inches (150 x 88 x 130 mm), with the positive terminal (Nuts&Bolts) being on the left side of the battery.

Some YTX12-BS batteries tend to be slightly larger, but not by much, and usually can fit without any issues. However, before buying any battery (not just YTX12-BS batteries), always check the actual size of your battery compartment and the actual size of the battery. Just in case...

Capacity of the YTX12-BS batteries is given for 10h discharge time and is usually around 10 Ah, with the Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) being around 180-210 Amps.

AGM and Gel-Cell YTX12-BS batteries usually weigh in the 7-9 pounds (~3.2 - 4.1 kg) range and come with a 12 to 24 months warranty.

Well, I don't want to sound like a dinosaur, but personally unless you are a pro-rider, go for a good AGM/Gel-Cell YTX12-BS battery and enjoy your ride safely.

Lithium YTX12-BS batteries can save few pounds of weight, which can be very important for professional drivers and similar folks, but does those 3-4 pounds less matter to people driving 200-300+ pounds vehicles? I don't think so.

How to Charge YTX12-BS Batteries?

When the YTX12-BS battery is connected to the electrical system of the vehicle with an alternator and the built-in battery charger, let the alternator/charger to their task and charge the battery - just check the battery voltage occasionally.

Lithium YTX12-BS batteries that are designed as a 'drop-in' replacement can be charged that way - actually, that is the recommended way of keeping them charged.

If the YTX12-BS batteries are used on the vehicles/applications with no battery charger, then a good battery charger is required:

- AGM/Gel-Cell batteries: go for an intelligent lead-acid battery charger that analyzes the battery first and charge it according to the battery condition. Also, equalization and desulphation charging modes are welcome. After the battery is fully charged, a good battery charger will switch to the maintenance mode and keep the battery fully charged over a longer period of time.

- Lithium batteries: do NOT charge them with battery chargers intended for AGM/Gel-Cell batteries - desulphation mode can easily destroy BMS and lithium battery cells. If the AGM battery charger features lithium battery charging mode, only then it can be used for charging the lithium YTX12-BS batteries. Or, if possible, go for the dedicated lithium battery charger - they are relatively cheap devices and cost several times less than the battery itself.

When charging ~10Ah AGM/Gel-Cell batteries, 2 Amps battery chargers are recommended.

If 10Ah battery is discharged down to 50% DoD, a good 2 Amps battery charger will recharge such battery in ~3 hours, depending on the battery condition, temperature, and similar.

When choosing the right battery charger for the lithium-ion battery, check the manufacturer's recommendations regarding the maximum and recommended charging current.
