WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 100Ah 12V AGM SLA Deep Cycle Battery is well balanced Absorbent Mat Glass (AGM) Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) battery designed for deep discharge applications - both cycle and standby applications.

WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 Features and Specifications

WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 is labeled as 12V 100Ah deep cycle battery, but its nominal (20h) capacity is actually 106Ah and its 10h capacity is 100Ah.

Since it is AGM SLA battery, its nominal voltage is 12 volts. Physical dimensions are 13.0 x 6.8 x 8.7 inches (33 x 17.3 x 22 cm) and it belongs to the BCI Group 31 battery (~13 x 6.8 x 9.44 inches).

 WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 weighs 67 pounds (~30.4 kg), which is in range with other similar ~100Ah batteries.

WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 is not designed for starting/cranking applications, but nonetheless, it is able to provide 1200 Amps for 5 seconds.

Its internal resistance is ~4.9 mΩ, and Reserve Capacity value is ~180 minutes.

When the battery is being used in cycle applications, number of charging/discharging cycles depends on the Depth of Discharge (DoD) - the more the battery is being discharged, less cycles the battery can withstand:

- 100% DoD: ~190 cycles down to 80% capacity, ~280 cycles down to 60% capacity,

- 50% DoD: ~380 cycles down to 80% capacity, ~460 cycles down to 60% capacity.

- 30% DoD: ~850 cycles down to 80% capacity, ~1120 cycles down to 60% capacity.

When dimensioning your battery or battery pack, it is good practice to 'over-dimension' battery capacity - this will improve the battery life and if required, provide at least some safety margin.

As one can see, WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 may provide relatively large currents for short period of time, but that is not what this battery is designed for.

How to Charge WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 Battery?

Generally, when the WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 battery is used for cyclic applications, charging voltage should be 14.4 - 15.0 volts with temperature coefficient of -30mV/°C.

Also, when the WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 battery is being used in standby applications, charging voltage should be 13.5 - 13.8 volts, with temperature coefficient of -20mV/°C.

Regardless of the intended use, maximum charging current should be kept below 30 Amps - since WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 is not intended for large currents, perhaps the best option for charging it is a smart/intelligent, microprocessor controlled AGM battery charger that monitors the battery condition and charge it accordingly.

When the WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 is discharged down to 50% DoD, such 20 Amps AGM battery charger can fully charge the battery in under 3 hours.

As one can see, with its weight of 67 pounds, WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 is one of the lighter 100Ah AGM batteries. Also, it features very good nominal capacity of 106 Ah, but its Reserve Capacity is 'only' ~180 minutes - for short, WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 is an excellent battery in terms of discharge features, as long as the discharge current is kept around or below 15-20 Amps.

As the current is increased, the performances of WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 lags behind other similar AGM batteries.

WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 as Trolling Motor Battery

Since most popular trolling motors draw 40-60 Amps, WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 is able to power such units for:

- 25 Amps, ~180 minutes (3h), down to ~10.5 volts,

- 40 Amps, ~105 minutes (1h, 45 mnutes), down to ~10.2 volts,

- 60 Amps, ~60 minutes (1h), down to ~9.6 volts.

However, if two batteries are connected in parallel in order to create 12V 200Ah battery pack, these operating times on the single battery charge are more than doubled - just keep the current below 15-20 Amps per battery :)

WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 as Recreational Vehicle House Battery

WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 may be used in RVs regardless if the vehicle has one battery or two battery electric systems.

If the vehicle features single battery electric system, WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 may be used to form single battery pack in excess of 300-400 Ah.

By connecting for example, four (4) WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 batteries in parallel, newly created battery pack features nominal voltage of 12 volts, with the nominal capacity of 424Ah (20h).

Such battery pack would be able to provide 4800(!) Amps for 5 seconds, or 930 Amps for 10 minutes (down to 9.6 volts), so it can easily be used even as starting/cranking battery (battery pack).

However, RVs with the single battery electric systems must be very careful not to drain the main battery too low, or it will not be able to crank the engine, when required.

If the vehicle features two batteries electric system (one cranking battery, another RVs house, deep discharge battery), WindyNation BAT-NSAP12-100 may be used to form the battery pack that will be used as RVs house battery only, to power appliances like lights, fans, smaller refrigerators, water pumps and similar.
